PENGARUH PEMBERIAN MUSIK INSTRUMENTAL POP TERHADAP TINGKAT KECEMASAN PASIEN ODONTEKTOMI

Abstract

Background: Many people feel anxious about dental procedure. Anxiety caused by dental procedure have been ranked fifth among other feared situations. A high prevalence of dental anxiety in society resulted in patient’s worse condition of teeth and oral health. Music therapy is one of a non-pharmacological method to lower patient anxiety. Aim: To investigate the effect of pop instrumental music therapy on patient anxiety during odontectomy procedure. Methods: This study is a clinical experimental research with non-randomized post test only control group design. The research subjects were 32 odontectomy patients aged 18-50 years old in Diponegoro National Hospital. Subjects were divided into control and treatment groups. Patient anxiety were assessed with Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale. The results were analyzed using independent t-test to observe the mean difference of anxiety scores between the two groups. Result: Results of the independent t-test showed a significant difference in anxiety scores between control and treatment groups with p<0,001 (p<0,05). Conclusion: Instrumental pop music therapy had a significant effect on reducing anxiety level of patient undergoing odontectomy procedure. Keywords: odontectomy, dental anxiety, pop instrumental music
