Abstract

Background : HIV infection become part of the chronic diseases that lead to high psychological stress and anxiety in people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). Anxiety in PLWHA is higher than people in general that may caused a lower score of quality of life. Aim : Determine the association between level of anxiety with quality of life of HIV/AIDS patients in Dr. Kariadi Hospital. Methods : This study was an comparative analytic study using cross sectional methods. The sampling method was using consecutive sampling on 94 HIV/AIDS outpatients in Tropical and Infection Clinic Dr.Kariadi Hospital. Furthermore, subjects filled out a Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (ZSAS) questionnaire and WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. Obtained data were analyzed using chi-square test. Results : The prevalence of anxiety disorders was 2.4% in patients with HIV / AIDS. There is no significant relationship between the level of anxiety with physical domain, psychological, social, and environmental (p=0,731; 0,691; 0,202; 0,710). Age, gender, marital status, education, occupation, and the CD4 count is not related to the quality of life in every domain. However, there is a significant relationship between long suffered with psychological domain (p=0,004). Conclusion : There is no significant association between the level of anxiety with quality of life. There is a significant relationship between long suffered with psychological domain of HIV/AIDS patients in Dr. Kariadi Hospital. Keywords : anxiety, quality of life, HIV / AIDS
