Abstract

Background: Cognitive is a broad understanding of the thinking and observing, which is the behavior that resulted in acquiring knowledge. Stimulation is more effective when attention to the needs of children in accordance with the stages of its development. The national educational system states that an early childhood development efforts aimed at children from birth to the age of six years are accomplished by providing stimulation and educational stimulation to support the growth and development of children. Early childhood education (ECD) can be organized through formal, non-formal and / or informal education. Objective: To provide the correlation of cognitive adaptive skills in children with non-formal and informal early childhood education programs. Method: This study using cross sectional method. Subjects were children aged 2-3 years who get in non-formal and informal early childhood education programs. The subject’s cognitive adaptive skills score (CAT DQ) were measured using a Capute Scales questionnaire. Results: Obtained mean of CAT DQ on the subject from non-formal early childhood education is higher than the subject from informal early childhood education. On the subject of non-formal early childhood education had a mean score 101.1995 ±10.20396 while on the subject of informal early childhood education had a mean score 88.7207 ± 9.01492 and the statistic result difference significantly (p = 0.001) between CAT DQ and the status of early childhood education (ECD). On the correlation statistical test of these two variables there is a significant correlation with the strength of the correlation coefficient is medium (r = 0.584). Conclusion: In the sample of children who received non-formal early childhood education stimulation had a mean score of cognitive adaptive skills higher compared to the mean score of cognitive adaptive skills of the children who received informal early childhood education stimulation.
