Abstract
Background: Stunting is highly prevalent in Indonesia (37,2%) and is associated with greater morbidity and mortality. Nutrient deficiencies contribute to stunting, and standard formula are a potential strategy to reduce child stunting. Aim: The study was aim to know the association between quantity of standard formula intake and incidence of stunting in children age 2-5 years Methods: This research was conducted with descriptive analytic design of Case Control Study, and was conducted in Semarang in March – May 2016. The subject was children age 2-5 years who consumes standard formula. Data analysis included univariate and bivariate analysis using Chi-square test at 95%, and multivariate Logistic Regression. Result: The number of subject were 106 children, divided into two groups: 53 stunting children in case group and 53 normal children in control group. The result showed that the family’s income have a significant association with the incidence of stunting in child age 2-5 years (p = 0,004; OR = 3,559) and so do the quantity of standar formula intake (p = 0,032; OR = 2,334). On the other hand, there was no significant association betwen the incidence of stunting with the other factors like: diet, supplementation, history of breastfeeding, and others demographic factors. Results obtained by multivariate analysis that the low family’s income is the dominant cause of 2-5 years children suffer stunted (p = 0,007; OR = 3,391), followed by low quantity of standar formula intake (p = 0,048; OR = 2,190). Conclusion: There was a association between the quantity of standard formula intake and incidence of stunting in children age 2-5 years Key words: Stunting, milk, standard formula
