Abstract

Background: Anxiety is a psychiatric condition that often occurs in patients and often underdiagnosed and not treated adequately. Etiology of anxiety is still undetermined and many reported factors are related to anxiety. Aim: To describe anxiety level and demographic of outpatients of Puskesmas Halmahera Semarang. To analyze the relationships between illness, demographic factors, psychosocial stressor and anxiety level of outpatients of Puskesmas Halmahera Semarang. Methods: This study is a descriptive analytic cross sectional design. A total of 52 outpatients of Puskesmas Halmahera Semarang completed the demographic and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) questionnaires. Results: 80,8% of respondents had mild anxiety level and 19,2% of respondents had moderate anxiety level. There was a significant relationships between age, psychosocial stressor, illness and anxiety level (p < 0,05). There was no significant relationships between gender, education and anxiety level (p > 0,05). Conclusions: There are many factors related to anxiety level of outpatients of Puskesmas Halmahera Semarang in this study. The results of this study indicate the importance of further study on the relationships between age, psychosocial stressor, illness, and anxiety.
