Abstract

Background : Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a most common disorder in child development. One of the problems experienced by children with ADHD is a sleep disturbance. Intake of carbohydrates and proteins associated with a condition of nutritional status, suspect associated with sleep disorders. Aim : The purpose of this study is to examine the correlation between sleep disturbance and nutritional status in ADHD children. Methods : The study design was cross sectional. Subjects were ADHD children between 4-15 years old in Semarang. Data were collecting using Sleep Disturbance Scale for Children (SDSC) questionnaires, scales and stadiometer for measuring weight and height. Subject was chosen by purposive sampling. The statistical test was using the Spearman correlation test. Result : There were 17 respondents of ADHD children consisted of 22 boys and 5 girls who had sleep disturbance. Most types of sleep disturbances is disorders of initiating and maintaining sleep. There were 11 (64,7%) respondents who had normal nutritional status. However the results of Spearman test showed no significant correlation (r=0,193) between sleep disturbance and nutritional status in ADHD children. Conclusion : There are no correlations between sleep disturbance and nutritional status in ADHD children (r=0,193).
