Abstract

The development from technology have impacts not only on the economic side but also on social and political values. Indonesia, which recently carried the era of reform, is currently in conflict with the conditions and difficulties of the ideological system above. Extremist movements regulate various societies, both grassroots and political elites. Surprisingly, extremist notions have inflated youth in the locus of education. The spread of both the movement and the ideology of extremism encompasses not only in digital youth discussions on social media. This study discussed the relationship between life satisfactions, political beliefs, and religiousity in the use of social media which has an impact on violent extremism. The methodology used is quantitative with multiple regression analysis to prove the hypothesis. This research had applied UGT as the grand theory for analyzing the use of sosial media. The findings of the study showed the result on the significant positive influence between life satisfaction, political beliefs and religiosity in the use of social media on violent extremism. The result stated the calculated F value (16.526) was greater than the F table (2.381) and the Significance value is 0,000 <0.05 which mean the core hypothesis is accepted. These findings clarified that life satisfaction, religiosity and political beliefs are interrelated and are indeed part of individual psychosocial factors, social factors, political factors, religious, ideological dimensions, the role of culture and the issue of identity in VE. Meanwhile, the media factor, such as sosial media posed as an echo-chamber and catalysator of the radicalization process resulting in violent extremism.
