The most popular social media in the world is Instagram. Previous researches showed that Instagram use raised various mental health problems. Indonesia as the fourth largest users in the world has no enough public education on the correlation between Instagram and psychological condition. The purpose of this study is to analize the correlation of psychological condition of excessive reassurance-seeking and life satisfaction scale with the motivation of using Instagram for social interaction and self-promotion, as well as the intensity of Instagram use in youngsters in Semarang. This research was conducted with explanatory quantitative approach using questionnaires to 228 students across UNDIP, UNIKA, and UNISSULA. Uses and Gratifications Theory is used as the grand theory of this study. Data analysis was performed using Somers’d correlation with IBM SPSS program. The cross-tabulation results showed that respondents had moderate level of excessive reassurance-seeking, life satisfaction scale, and social interaction on Instagram; while for self-promotion on Instagram and intensity of Instagram use is at a low level. The results showed that excessive reassurance-seeking correlated with social interactions (d = .123; n = 228; p = .025) and self-promotion (d = .105; n = 228; p = .028) in Instagram, as well as the intensity of Instagram use (d = .125; n = 228; p = .014) in a very weak positive correlation but statistically significant. On the other hand, life satisfaction uncorrelated with social interaction (d = .050; n = 228; p = .363) and self-promotion (d = .013; n = 228; p = .803) on Instagram, and also with the intensity of Instagram use (d = -.001; n = 228; p = .991).
