Abstract
Information of SARA (Tribe, Religion, Race, and Groups) in social media, tends to bring up cognitive dissonance and emotional atmosphere changes in information processing activities of individuals who access actual information through the internet. The number of cases related to hoaxes and SARA events that were triggered by hoaxes that occurred earlier formed new knowledge for internet users. However, on the other side, prejudice between individuals can also be formed, which comes from a SARA information, which is expressed through variations in individual comments or actions, even though the factual element still needs to be known. Therefore, when there are disclosures of cases relating to SARA hoaxes, various reactions arise from the public. This research uses interpretive genres, cybernetics traditions, and phenomenological traditions, which seek to understand the world of individual experiences in conducting information processing activities that contain SARA content from social media. By using Elaboration Likelihood Theory's theoretical perspective, to explain how individuals carry out various ways of evaluating a number of SARA information that they access. In addition, this study also seeks to find the meaning of information and SARA hoaxes that is understood by individuals.. The results of this study indicate that in everyday life individuals access actual-domestic information and additional knowledge in different durations. The internet that has social media, is chosen as the preferred media for seeking information. The availability of mobile phones and computers facilitates the activities of individuals accessing information and using the internet. Highly educated individuals tend to access information from more sources. SARA information is not an informational goal and is relatively easy to find on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Blog, and Line. SARA information is about religion, ethnicity and other political groups. The type of media affects the physical form of SARA information. Some SARA information is considered as a hoaxes, not only disseminated through Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Blog, and Line, but also transmitted through conventional media. There are four meanings of SARA hoax, namely news that the cause of events is not in accordance with the facts, contains wrong sentences, news that does not fit reality, and displays a reality that is not intact. SARA Hoaxes has a number of characteristics. The emergence of SARA hoaxes is caused by several factors. There are varied responses from individuals to SARA hoaxes. SARA Hoaxes involves the producer and disseminator of the information. The government's role in overcoming SARA hoaxes is assessed in a variety of ways. Individuals discuss SARA hoaxes with others. There are differences in the atmosphere of discussion between the individuals of Jakarta, Bekasi, and Semarang.
