Abstract
ABSTRACT Akub Selvia Effects of Family to Family Support on Family Resilience of Patients Undergoing Hemodialysis Therapy xvii + 88 pages + 12 tables + 11 figures + 16 appendixes Hemodialysis therapy can have an impact on patients and families as caregivers. The families may experience fatigue, sadness, stress, and saturation in providing care to patients. Changes in families as caregivers may lead to decreased family resilience. Family to Family Support is one of the interventions which can be used to increase family resilience. This study aimed to determine the effects of Family to Family Support on increasing the family resilience of patients undergoing hemodialysis therapy. This research was a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental design. The samples were 24 people in the control group and 24 people in the intervention group recruited using consecutive sampling. The intervention of Family to Family Support was administered by forming a group of eight people to share their experiences of caring for hemodialysis patients. The intervention was conducted for five meetings in four weeks; each session lasted for 45 minutes. Data were analyzed using a paired t-test and independent t-test. The results showed that there were no differences in family resilience before the intervention between the control and intervention groups (p=0.97). After the intervention, there was an increase in family resilience in the intervention group (p<0.001) and also differences in family resilience after the implementation of Family to Family Support between the intervention group and the control group (p <0.001). The Family to Family Support intervention was effective in increasing the family resilience of patients undergoing hemodialysis therapy.
