Abstract

Studies about factors associated with the husband’s support get varied results and there are several other factors that have not been studied before such as family income, access to health facilities and skills. The objectives of this study was to analyze the factors associated with the husband’s support in exclusive breastfeeding. This research used descriptive-analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample were 400 respondent. The data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed univariate, bivariate using test Chi square and multivariate using multiple logistic regression test. The results of this study indicated that the presentation of husband’s support was not optimal that was 48% of husbands provide less support. The factors that associated were; age (p = 0,026), education (p = 0,002), family income (p = 0,005), knowledge (p = 0,000), attitude (p = 0,000), culture (p = 0,000), skills (p = 0,000) and family support (p = 0,000). The results of multivariate analysis fond that the most dominant factor associated with husband's support was skill (p = 0,003 and OR = 7,212). The suggestion for nursing practice is to hold a parenting class to improve the husband’s knowledge, attitudes and skills related to exclusive breastfeeding.
