Abstract

EVALUATION OF POLITICAL COMMUNICATION STRATEGY FOR PRESIDENT OF LÚ OLO " FROM THE FRETILIN PARTY This study aims to find out about the evaluation of the political communication strategy by presidential candidate Francisco Guterres "Lú Olo" from the Fretilin Party against the presidential elections in 2007 and 2012 which in the first round election Lú Olo always won but always failed in the second round where the two general election periods of president Lú Olo always lost because small parties united to vote for other candidates and the victory of the existing candidates was always supported by Xanana Gusmão. The Timor-Leste presidential election in 2017 is a nomination which is therefore the campaign's presidential candidate "Lú Olo" with the Fretilin Party and its success team in consolidating and political communication campaigns in order to get voting support when the presidential election takes place. Researchers used qualitative research with Phenomenology research method with snowball (snowball) sampling technique data collection through in-depth interviews with presidential candidates and success teams as well as informants from supporting parties namely CNRT. The results of this study indicate that in evaluating the political communication strategy used by the presidential candidate "Lú Olo" and the success team and support from Xanana Gusmão succeeded in delivering "Lú Olo" win in the presidential election with a vote of 57.1 percent of the vote and becoming President Democratic Republic of East Timor 2017-2022. By functioning all the Fretilin Party structures from the national level to the village level, The Fretilin party sent 5-15 successful teams and volunteers to conduct campaigns in the sub-district and door to door campaigns and presidential candidates to conduct an open campaign in 12 districts and 1 Oecusse Ambeno Special Administrative Region (RAEOA) in addition to campaigns conducted by presidential and team candidates success, then the presidential candidate received strong support from José Alexandre Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão with his CNRT Party and CASDT as well as veterans who provided support to the pre-presidential candidate "Lú Olo".
