Abstract

ABSTRACT Meinati, Dwi, 2018. “Analysis Adaptation From Short Story Kagami Jigoku by Edogawa Rampo Into Movie Rampo Jigoku”, Thesis, Japanese Language and Culture, Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University, Semarang. Consultant: YulianiRahmah, S.Pd., M.Hum. The purpose of this research is to analyze the adaptation process from short story Kagami Jigoku into movie Rampo Noir. The methodelogy used in this research is qualitative descriptive analysis. The theories used are the theory of structuralism by Nurgiyantoro and the theory of transformation by Damono. The theory of structuralism is used to analyse intrinsic elements of the short story. Whereas the theory of transformation is used to analyse the adaptation process from the short story to the movie. Based on the results of the research, it is known that the adaptation process is seen in the form of several changes, additions, and subtractions. Several changes occur in characters, settings, and plot. Additions in movie also occur in characters, plot, settings. Whereas subtractions in the movie occur in characters and plot. The adaptation approach used is loose, because the story in the short story is different from the movie but the idea of the story is maintained. The conclusion of the research is that the adaptation processes occur because of the differences and adjustments that exist between the two works. Adaptation works can be different from the original literature work because the interpretation of each person can be different from each other. It doesn't matter if the story on the short storyis different from the movie. Keyword: transformation, adaptation, short story, movie, Kagami Jigoku, Rampo Noir
