Abstract
There is a boarding school in the Chinatown area called Pesantren Karangturi Kauman Village, District Lasem, Rembang. Javanese-Muslim members. Meanwhile, local residents are ethnic Chinese non-Muslim citizens. Communication gap occurs between the Javanese Muslims as foreigners and non-Muslim ethnic Chinese as a native. This study aims to understand the communication gap between the members of the Javanese Muslim Boarding Schools Tiongoa kauman with non-Muslim ethnic Karangturi Village, District Lasem, Rembang. Using a qualitative approach, with the interpretive paradigm, and analyzed through phenomenological method. This study uses Accomodation Communication Theory. The results of this study found that the process of intercultural communication that occurs generate a gap between members of Pesantren Kauman and ethnic Chinese residents in the village Karangturi. The gap arises when ethnic Chinese as a native assume traditions, culture, and religious affiliations as a matter believed to have existed since the first and lasted for generations. While members of Pesantren Kauman who is a newcomer in the village can not be berakomodasi Karangturi well to the tradition and culture of the indigenous population. So that members of the ethnic Muslim Javanese choose to interact with their own group, and keep using religious attributes believed such a cap, gloves and scarf. The prejudice that appears to make good the two ethnic groups still showed a strong identity of their respective cultures. Efforts are being made to reduce the Boarding School Kauman emergence as a rising gap with natives through accommodation. Accommodation is done by members of Pesantren kauman in the form of installation of lanterns and manufacture of Chinese writing in various corners of Pondok Pesantren Kauman. It also built the post kamling that resembles a pagoda and supplemented by Pesantren kauman with Arabic and Chinese writing on the right and left of the entrance.
