PEMAKNAAN AUDIENS TERHADAP FILM DOKUMENTER “DHIRA NARAYANA OF LINGKAR GANJA NUSANTARA”

Abstract

Documentary film is interesting to be analized since its content approached social issue in a society simultaneously often discovers controversial topics. This research has a purpose to find out audience interpreting about documentary film entitled “Dhira Narayana of Lingkar Ganja Nusantara”. This research divided as two steps, which is research discover meaning structure about documentary film which is researched using Barthes conceptual theory that is denotation sign, conotation sign and myth. Afterwards research continue to acceptance process explanation which occur when audience do text media perusal using reception analysis approaching. This result claim that three of five informants agree with dominant reading meaning because informants agree with cannabis legalization discourse which is strove by Lingkar Ganja Organization, the two others informants consider that not all of the content within the film can be accepted (negotiated reading). During interview period discovered that informants has different typical of mindset from meaning acceptance process of documentary film. This documentary film can be accepted entirely by the informants, although there is still some kind of things that being disagree by the informant, approved by none of the informants reused entire content within the film (oppositional reading). Three of the informants agree with controversial discourse about cannabis, they argue that cannabis can be used for medic or industrial importance. Whereas two other informants discern cannabis has two sides that need to be researched both for its advantages or disadvantages. Because of this can be concluded that this documentary film can trigger controversy from all sorts of point of view that is declared by the audience (society). In fact audience that consuming media content has absolute right to interpret content and negotiate with ideology that exist within.
