Abstract

Harmi, Regina, 2017. “Concept of Fall in Sundanese Language (Semantic Feature Analysis)”. Thesis (S-1) Diponegoro University Semarang Faculty of Humanities. Mentor: Drs. Hendarto Supatra, S. U and Riris Tiani, S.S., M.Hum. This research describes words that have the meaning of ‘fall’ in Sundanese language using semantic feature analysis method. The purpose of this research is to describe general meaning that word ‘fall’ have, along with its particular meaning so that it will semantically form a concept. This research use semantic (lexical) theory with the primary data sources are coming from Kamus Bahasa Sunda-Indonesia and Kamus Basa Sunda and secondary data source is from native Sundanese speaker. The data collected using participant observation method, with listening and note-taking technique. Data analysis methods used is referential identity method and contrast method; distributional method with expansion technique, and semantic feature analysis method. Based on the research, there is lexical meaning as well as significance of word ‘fall’ in Sundanese language, semantic feature analysis, and semantic concept. In the semantic feature analysis, there are 34 words with four main distinguishing dimensions that underlie some of the components inside. The four dimensions are WHAT (CONCRETE), HOW (PROCESS), WHERE, and CONSEQUENCE as each of the dimension has a role to distinguish the occurrence of word ‘fall’. These components form meaning with the concept from specific meaning of (1) Semantic concept of the word ‘fall’ is categorized as a concept of OCCURRENCE which is an action of process and experience; (2) Meaning of specific words of 33 words in taxonomical form namely MAIN COMPONENT, CONTRASTIVE COMPONENT, and INSIDENTAL COMPONENT; and (3) general-to-specific meaning
