Peran Significant Others dan Konsep Diri terhadap Kemampuan Mereduksi Konflik dalam Pemutusan Hubungan Interpersonal

Abstract

Romantic relationship currently has become a culture which created in the among of society. Romantic relationship actually have several benefit if viewed in the terms of interpersonal communication. However, on the other hand, there are also several bad impact that could occur, if the relationship which was built suddenly facing the termination. Depression is one of them. To minimize the bad impact of relationship termination, it is important for us to have a great capability of reducing conflict, in order to avoid the relationship termination. Significant others and self-concept is assumed as a factors that have a role in forming the capability of reducing conflict. The higher the role of significant others, and the more positive a self-concept, the better the capability of reducing a conflict that can cause a termination of interpersonal relationship. This research was conducted to find out how influential the role of significant others and self-concept in forming the capability of reducing a conflict. The type of this research is explanatory, with a purposive sampling technique. The population of this research is young adults people that being involved in a romantic relationship and have experienced conflict that almost causing a relationship termination. The quantity of sample is 40 young adults. There are several characteristics of relationship that were built by young adults. they lead the romantic relationship into a future-oriented. So, the impact of the termination is more dangerous, because they are serious on building a relationship towards marriage. The research finds that almost everyone has an acceptance that high enough about an advice which given by their significant others. However, the acceptance is not always followed by changes in their attitudes and behavior. There are mechanisms in a person who play a greater role in determining their decisions, for instance is self-concept. Based on the result of statistical test, by using a regression analysis, it can be concluded that the significant others and self-concept are the factors that have role in forming the capability of reducing conflict. However, the role given by significant others is not as significant as the role given by self-concept. From the statistic result, it is known that the role in forming a capability of reducing conflict that contributed by significant others is only 4.9%. And the contribution of self-concept in reducing conflict is 22.1%.
