Abstract

ABSTRACT Annisa Julia Mukminin. 2017. “ Inner Conflict of the Main Character in the novel Nijuushi no Hitomi by Sakae Tsuboi Psychoanalysis Study”. A thesis of Japanese Department, Diponegoro University. Advisor: Nur Hastuti, S.S., M.Hum. The object of this study is a novel entitled Nijuushi no Hitomi. The method of data collection is library research. This study uses theory of characterization approach and psychoanalysis. Psychoanalysis is Sigmund Freud’s theory that discusses human personality structure. This thesis discusses internal conflict of Oishi Sensei in novel Nijuushi no Hitomi and the solving. The result of this study reveals there are Oishi Sensei's personality is influenced by superego, she also has a melancholy and touchable personality, also sincere and affectionate. Meanwhile, there are three internal conflicts of Oishi Sensei consisting Oishi Sensei inner conflict with her students, Oishi Sensei inner conflict with villagers, and Oishi Sensei inner conflict with her son Daikichi. Oishi Sensei solved her conflicts with ego defense mechanism. The defense aimed to reduce anxiety caused by excessive superego. Keywords: Oishi Sensei, personality, internal conflict, conflict solving
