Abstract

Digester is a vessel where the cooking process or reaction delignification of wood chips takes place. With the addition of a solution of the chemical cookers, heat, and pressure of the lignin will be dissolved and converted into pulp wood chips. In designing this tool have dimensions digester include: tank diameter: 35 cm, height tank: 50 cm, plate thickness: 0.12 cm, Impeller diameter: 23.07 centimeters, stirrer speed: 2800 rpm and a capacity of 20 liters. Pulping process can use non-wood raw materials, one of which is waste rice straw. The content of rice straw is composed of cellulose 38.76%, 26.69% hemicellulose and lignin 22.23%. Pulping aims to get as much fiber as possible as indicated by the value of high yield with a minimum lignin content. The purpose of this experiment is to determine the optimum conditions in the digester tool pulping of rice straw. From straw pulping process stages, namely: (1) dry straw cut, (2) cooking in the digester, (3) pulp is filtered, and (4) pulp was analyzed. Variables that most good result is the optimum state at a temperature of 110oC and cooking time 80 minutes. Results of analysis obtained 41.74% yield.
