Abstract
Coleman and Karraker (2000) defined parenting self-efficacy as a self-assessment of parents towards their competence in performing the role of a parent, or parents perception about their ability to positively influence behavior and development of their children. One of the factors that influence maternal self-efficacy is social support. This study aims to determine the relationship between perceived social support of individual, derived from the people closest to maternal self-efficacy. Subjects were mothers with autistic spectrum disorder. Samples were taken using purposive sampling with 46 mothers. Collecting data is use two Likert scale models Maternal Self-Efficacy Scale (38 item valid, α = .97) and Social Support Scale (40 item valid, α = .98), which has been tested on 31 women who have children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Analysis of the results data using simple regression analysis showed a positive and significant relationship between social support and parenting self-efficacy as indicated by the correlation coefficient rxy = .46, p = .001 (p <.05). Social support provides effective contribution of 21% of the maternal self-efficacy.
