Abstract

Background: Central obesity, an excessive abdominal fat around the stomach and abdomen, is closely related to cardiovascular disease. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), obesity is 1 of 10 health risks that can be prevented. Waist circumference is considered as an anthropometric measurement correlated with visceral fat in the obese population. To prevent obesity, it is necessary to run and perform core training. Aim: This study aims at comparing the effect of regular running with regular running combined with core muscles exercise on waist circumference. Methods: This is an experimental study with two group pre and post-test design. Twenty six subjects were divided into two groups by purposive sampling. Group 1 is running for 30 minutes and group 2 is running for 30 minutes plus core training twice a week for 8 weeks. Tests of normality used Shapiro Wilk. Test for hypothesis used paired t-test and tests for difference is using ANOVA. Significance is determined by p value of <0,05. Results: In group 1 there is no significant difference before and after intervention (p=0.217). While in group 2, there is a significant difference before and after intervention (p=0.031). There is no significant difference between group 1 and group 2 (p=0.230). Conclusion: There is no significant difference between the effect of regular running with regular running combined with core training on waist circumference. Keywords: Waist circumference, running, core training.
