PERBEDAAN TINGKAT PENGETAHUAN DAN SIKAP IBU HAMIL SEBELUM DAN SETELAH PENYULUHAN MENGENAI INISIASI MENYUSU DINI

Abstract

Background : Coverage rate of exclusive breastfeeding in the city of Semarang is still less than the national target of 80%. This is caused by pregnant women’s low knowledge about early initiation of breastfeeding that relates to their attitude in giving breastmilk as soon as possible to the babies. Facts show that breastfeeding in the first hour or early initiation of breastfeeding can increase the coverage rate of exclusive breastfeeding. One of the efforts to control this problem is to do counseling. Aim : To find out the difference of knowledge level and attitude towards early initiation of breastfeeding on pregnant woman before and after counseling. Methods : This study used quasi experimental one group pretest-posttest design. The samples were pregnant women of 20-35 of age who checked their pregnancy in Puskesmas Halmahera and Puskesmas Ngesrep Semarang between April to May 2016. Samples were taken by consecutive sampling and we obtained a total sample of 32 pregnant women. The subjects were given pretest questionnaire followed by counseling and then given posttest questionnaire. Data analysis for level of knowledge was done with Wilcoxon test, while attitude was analyzed with Paired T-test test. Results : There were significant difference of knowledge level and attitude towards early initiation of breastfeeding on pregnant woman before and after counseling with p<0,001. Conclusions : There were improved of knowledge level and attitude towards early initiation of breastfeeding on pregnant woman before and after counseling.
