Abstract

Background: Dyslipidemia is an abnormal lipid profile in serum, one of which is the increase level of triglyceride. Red dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) has been proven to repair lipid profile since it contains phenolic and flavonoid. The red dragon fruit’s peel contains nutrients such as carbohydrate, fat, protein, fiber and betacyanin compounds. Objective: To discover the differences between effect of red dragon fruit’s peel steeping and flesh juice administration on serum triglyceride levels of Sprague dawley rats with dyslipidemia. Method: This research is a true experimental research, uses pre and post test with control group design. 10 weeks-aged male Sprague dawley rats were used as samples, induced with dyslipidemia by quail eggs and cholic acid. Group K(-) was given standard meal, group K(+) was given high cholesterol meal, group P1 was given red dragon fruit peel steeping and group P2 was given flesh juice of red dragon fruit. Serum triglyceride levels was examined with CHOD-PAP and GPOPAP method. Data then were being analyzed with paired t test and one-way ANOVA. Result: There were significant differences between before and after intervention on group K(-), K(+), P1 and P2. The administration of peel steeping for 14 days has proven to decrease triglyceride level by 53,61 mg/dl (SD= 4,06), meanwhile flesh juice of red dragon fruit has proven to decrease triglyceride level by 36,99 mg/dl (SD= 8,14). After intervention there were differences in triglyceride levels mean value between the groups p=0,000 except for K(-) with P1 (peel steeping) p=1.000. Conclusion: The administration of red dragon fruit’s peel steeping and flesh juice for 14 days with dose of 9,08 g/200 gBW rat and 1,53 g/200 gBW rat were able to decrease serum triglyceride levels each by 53,61 mg/dl (SD= 4,06) and 36,99 mg/dl (SD=8,14) on dyslipidemia Sprague dawley rats. Keywords: red dragon fruit peel steeping, flesh juice of red dragon fruit, serum triglyceride, dyslipidemia
