Abstract

Background: Women during pregnancy are less concerned about the nutrients they consume. Nutrition deficiencies, one of which is iron (Fe), can decrease the levels of haemoglobin (Hb) in blood, called anemia. Decreased levels of haemoglobin in pregnant women reported to cause the incidence of low birth weight (LBW), so we need more research on this problem. Aim: To analyse the association between anemia of third trimester pregnant women with the incidence of low birth weight babies. Methods: This study is an observational analytic study, with a cohort study design. The number of subjects who entered are 31 person at Halmahera Health Centre, Semarang. Haemoglobin levels data obtained from third trimester pregnant women with Hb measurements using hemoglobinometer and infant weight data obtained when the baby was born. Result: There was 31 samples involved in this study. Chi-square test with fisher exact test analysis on the association between hemoglobin levels of third trimester pregnant women with the incidence of low birth weight babies has p value 0,043 and with Winepiscope application relative risk (rr) is calculated to be 2,364. Conclusion: There is a significant association between anemia of third trimester pregnant women with the incidence of low birth weight babies. Keyword: haemoglobin, anemia, low birth weight, pregnancy
