PENGARUH AROMATERAPI ROSEMARY TERHADAP ATENSI

Abstract

Background : Aromatherapy is one of alternative treatment method using odoriferous and volatile crops. As a media of relaxation, aromatherapy also give positive effects on cognitive functions. One of the parameter is attention. Attention is an attempt of a mind to be focused on certain object, to face the object with all neurological and physicological aspects. Attention consists of three aspects : alerting, orienting, and executive attention. Objective : To observe effects of rosemary aromatherapy treatment on attention enhacement. Method : This was true experimental research. The samples were students of Faculty of Medicine, Diponegoro University (n=18). The attention was measured using Attention Network Test software before and after being inhaled Rosemary aromatherapy for ± 30 minutes. Attention between before and after exposure to aromatherapy Rosemary using paired T-test , whereas changes in attention between groups were analyzed using an independent T-test . Results : There were improvement in alerting function in the research subjects were given exposure to rosemary aromatherapy for ± 30 minutes from 47.77 ± 21.77 ms be 29.00 ± 6.14 ms , p = 0.001 ( p < 0.05 ). Conclusion : Giving exposure to rosemary aromatherapy improved attention on alerting function . Keywords : Aromatherapy Rosemary, Cognitive Function , Attention , Attention Network Test
