Abstract

Background : Low Back Pain (LBP) was one of the most common complaints found that causes disability to perform daily activities. And also LBP was one of the most common musculoskeletal disorders in the adult population. There were different modalities of physical therapy to reduce pain, included Short Wave Diatermy (SWD) and Trancutaneus Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) therapy, which have proven to be beneficial and be a therapy often used in RSUD Dr.Kariadi Semarang. Aim : To determine the effect of pain reduction in patients with mechanical LBP who received a package of SWD and TENS therapy program in Medical Rehabilitation RSUP Dr.Kariadi Semarang. Methods : This research was in the department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. This research was descriptive analytic study using secondary data (Patient medical records). Subjects were patients with mechanical LBP in Polyclinic Medical Rehabilitation RSUP Dr.Kariadi Semarang. Results : There were a significant reduction in pain intensity before and after TENS therapy (p = 0.000). And also patients with SWD therapy, there were a significant reduction in pain intensity before and after TENS therapy (p = 0.000). There were no significant differences between the mean VAS difference value of mechanical LBP patients who received TENS therapy and mechanical LBP patients who received SWD therapy (p = 0.109). Conclusion : One package of TENS therapy is as effective as a single package of SWD therapy to reduce pain in patients with mechanical LBP. Key Words : Low Back Pain (LBP) Mekanik, Transcutaneus Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS), Short Wave Diathermy (SWD)
