Abstract
Kata Kunci : Komunikasi Vertikal, Pelatihan, Locus Of Control, Kinerja Abstract The Islamic university of Sultan Agung (UNISSULA) is one of the leading private universities in Central Java with the accreditation of BAN PT. Therefore, it needs good vertical communication among the employees. Vertical communication is considered as vital component toward the aim of such organization, including UNISSULA. One of the policies applied in UNISSULA is the aim to improve human resource quality by conducting training for them. However, in one condition, the total of the fresh students which becomes the most donations for UNISSULA’s finance is decreasing this year. This indicates that the performance of the members is decreasing. This phenomenon also indicates that there is an assumption that the vertical communication in UNISSULA and the conducted training have no effect on their performance. Therefore, a study of the effect of training on their performance which is moderated by locus of control must be generated. This study involves all of the UNISSULA employees by taking 90 people of them who have attended such training as the sample. The data was analyzed by the technique of descriptive analysis which was counted using ANOVA (analysis of variant). The aims of this study are to examine the effect of vertical communication and training on performance, and to examine the effect of the moderator variable of locus of control on the correlation of vertical communication and training to the performance. This study resulted that the four hypotheses proposed in this study showed significant effects. The vertical communication and training had significant effect on the performance, which means that the vertical communication and training affected the performance of the employees. The effect of locus of control on the performance was significant which means that the performance of the employees was affected by the locus of control. The interaction effect among communication, employees, and training with the level of locus of control was significant which means that there is an effect of vertical communication, training through locus of control on the performance of the UNISSULA’s employees. The implication of this study summarizes that the internal communication in UNISSULA must be improved especially when it has limitation of financial support, where the members can not have high intensity of training program. Therefore, it is suggested for UNISSULA especially to employ those who have high locus of control especially internal locus of control. UNISSULA should prioritize candidates of the employees who have internal locus of control when selecting their employees and conducting training so that the training program designed can enhance the improvement of their performance. Key words: Vertical Communication, Training, Locus of Control, Performance
