Abstract

Background. Small for Gestationa Age (SGA) is one of the factors that leads growth disorders of the baby at the next stages. Therefore, important to know the risk factors of small for gestational age. Aim. To determine the risk factors of SGA infant in Dr. Kariadi Hospital Semarang. Method. This study was observational analytic using case control approach performed in perinatology wards. Subjects were taken consecutively and devided into case and control group. Risk factor of SGA infant Odds ratio were analyzed using chi-square test, and concidered significant when p<0.05. Result. The incidence of SGA infants in mother with pregnancy disease is higher than mother without pregnancy disease [p=0.056; OR=10.3 (30.91 - 116.2)]. The incidence of SGA infants in mother with weight gain <12 kg is more frequent than mother with weight gain < 12 kg [p=0.004; OR=14.0 (2.3 - 83.9)]. There are no significant difference of SGA infant incidence according to maternal age [p=0.799; OR=1.1 (0.2-3.6)], gravida [p=0.365; OR=0.7 (0.06-2.59)], mother's Hb [p=0.096; OR=2.2 (0.68-6.67)], economic status [p=0.357; OR=1.5 (0.25-2.65)], number of children, and pregnancy distance [p=0.252; OR=0.6 (0.18-6.4)]. Conclusion. Weight gain <12 kg during pregnancy and pregnancy diseases are the risk factors of SGA infant. Keywords.
