Abstract
Background: Warning sign on dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) was a predictor of degree of severity disease that started the manifestations shock and appeared towards the end of febrile phase, between day 3 to 7 in patients with DHF. Age was a factor which affect host susceptibility to viral infections of DHF disease. Research on the description of different characteristics of DHF warning sign in children aged 0-19 years and adults aged >19 years was still a little bit so this research needed to be done. Objective: To determine differences in the characteristics of description warning sign WHO 2009 on disease DHF children and adults. Methods: The study was observational analytic cross-sectional retrospective on 50 children and 50 adult subjects who had been diagnosed with DHF disease degree I and II with good nutritional status. Data retrieval was done by looking at warning sign through observation of medical records from January 2013 until March 2015. Results: Warning sign on the child obtained 68% abdominal pain, persistent vomiting 32%, 88% mucosal bleeding, and 24% liver enlargement, while adult obtained 60% abdominal pain, persistent vomiting 34%, 56% mucosa hemorrhage, and 4% liver enlargement. Results obtained by analysis of mucosal bleeding and liver enlargement as a description of the most characteristic warning sign indicated difference in children and adults with p value of <0.001 and 0.004. Conclusions: There was significant differences in the characteristics of description warning sign mucosal bleeding and liver enlargement in children and adults of DHF.
