Abstract

Lead acetate can be produced by electrolysis. Research has been conducted to dissolve Pb in acetic acid solution electrolytically. The research was aimed at finding out the effect of external potential on Pb dissolving in acetic acid solution. Pb dissolving was done in electrolytic cells with Pb as anode and Ni at cathode whose shape and sizewere set constant and which were supplied with varying potentials of 0; 3.0; 4.5; 6.0; 7.5 and 9.0 volts for 30 minutes in a static system. Electrolytic solution used comprised cobalt sulphate 500 ppm and acetic acid 99,6%. Filtrate of sample produced by electrolysis was analysed using 0.1 M K2Cr2O7 and H2SO4 solution. The precipitate obtained was weighed with Mettler AT 200. Results of the research showed that the mass of Pb metal that which is precipitating in electrolysis cell is 0; 1.0; 1.9; 3.1; 3.2 and 3.4 mg. The mass of Pb metal that is soluble from precipitated with K2Cr2O7 are 0; 4.7; 5.9; 6.5; 6.8 and 10.5 mg, while the mass of Pb metal which is soluble from precipitated with H2SO4 at the same voltages were 0; 1.5; 2.5; 2.8; 4.9 and 6.4 mg.
