Abstract

While the crisis is taking place, interest rate in Indonesia grows very sharply. The tight monetary situation reflected from the high interest results some contraction in economy. Factors influencing on interest rate increase so that there is a tendency that interest rate fluctuates too. Applying The Edward and Khan (1985) model by using multiple regression analysis, this research analyses foreign interest rate variable, foreign exchange of Rupiah against US Dollar, interest rate of SIB (Indonesian interest Rate), broad money and inflation against the interest rate in Indonesia. The result shows that foreign factors consisting offareign interest rale (LIBOR) and changes of Rupiah exchange rate per US Dollar negatively and significantly influence the number of deposit interest rale; SBl interest rate has significantly positive influence on the number of deposit interest rate; the broad money significantly has negative influence on the number of deposit interest rate; inflation does not significantly influence the number of deposit interest rate; simultaneously five variables of foreign factors, SBI interest rate, broad money and inflation significantly have positive influences on the deposit interest rate in Indonesia.
