Abstract

Ardiani, Liza. 2022. “The Value of Character Education in Film Semesta Mendukung the Work of John De Rantau (Study of the Sociology of Literature)”. Thesis (S1) Indonesian Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Diponegoro University, Semarang. The object of this research is the film Semesta Mendukung, directed by John De Rantau. This film was released in 2011. This study aims to determine the narrative structure and cinematic elements (Mise-en-scene) in the Semesta Mendukung film and the value of character education in the Semesta Mendukung film. This study used the descriptive qualitative method. This study uses a sociological approach to literature. The data collection technique was done by watching and taking notes. The theory used is the theory of value education by Qiqi Yuliati Zakiyah and A. Rusdiana. The results in this study indicate that in the film Semesta Mendukung, narrative elements include narrative relationships with space, narrative relationships with time, storytellers, problems, and goals. Then in the film Semesta Mendukung shows cinematic elements (mise-en-scene) including setting or background, costumes and makeup, lighting, and the players and their movements. Meanwhile, the analysis of the value of character education shows that in the film Semesta Mendukung, character education includes religious values, discipline, hard work, creativity, independence, love for the homeland, and social care.
