Abstract
This research discuss abaut code mixing and code switching in the speech of TK Hj. Sri Anah II Semarang. The object of this research is students of TK Hj. Sri Anah II Semarang. The purpose of this study is to describe the form of code mixing and code switching, and describe the factors behind the use of code mixing and code switching in TK Hj. Sri Anah II Semarang. The problem raised in this study is how to use code mixing and code switching in students communication in TK Hj. Sri Anah II Semarang. This research is included in the descriptive qualitative research. The data was taken in October 2019. The data collection technique for this research was carried out using the listening method and its follow-up techniques, namely tapping techniques, free listening and conversational techniques, and note taking techniques. The data were then identified and analyzed based on sociolinguistic theory, especially code mixing and code switching from the theories of Suwito, Chaer and Agustina, Nababan, and I Nengah Suandi. This research found that there were code-mixing and code-switching events between languages, namely Indonesian to Javanese and Indonesian to English. Factors that cause code mixing include (1) speakers, (2) limited use of code, (3) function and purpose factors, (4) factors for mere prestige, and (5) more popular word factors. The factors that cause code switching are (1) the presence of a third party and (2) the interlocutor. Keywords: code mixing, code switching, sociolinguistics, Javanese, Indonesian, English
