Abstract

Interval data based transportation problem (IBTP) is a transportation problem where data is provided in the form of intervals: minimum amount to maximum amount. Such type of problem is difficult to solved directly using available methods for transportation problem. This raises a combination of two new thoughts to solve IBTP. Firstly IBTP is converted to fuzzy transportation problem using trisectional fuzzy trapezoidal approach and secondly a ranking technique based on in-center concept is applied for conversion to crisp number where the ranking technique be compared to roubast ranking. Next, the Least Cost – MODI method is used to determine the optimal solution. Keyword: Fuzzy transportation problem, Trapezoidal fuzzy number, Trisectional fuzzy trapezoidal approach, In-center concept, Interval data based, Roubast ranking, Least Cost – MODI.
