Abstract

Transportation problems are problem of distributing goods from source to destination which aims to obtain a minimum total transportation cost so that the profits obtained by a company are maximized. Therefore, solving transportation problems to finding an initial basic feasible solution will be needed by a company. In this final project, three new methods are discussed to find the initial basic feasible solution of transportation problems. To find a initial basic feasible solution, these three methods are an update from VAM which usually provide a initial basic feasible solution that is better than other methods. Based on the cases discussed, it shows that the three new methods called Total Differences Methods (TDM) is one method to find initial basic feasible solutions that provide optimal results because they can be tested optimally using MODI. Keywords: Transportation problems, initial basic feasible solutions, TDM, VAM, MODI.
