Thesis Japanese Language and Culture Study Program, Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University. Thesis Advisor Fajria Noviana, S.S, M.Hum. This study analyzes readers’ responses toward a homosexual character in the manga. Uchi no Musuko ha Tabun Gei is a manga that takes a mother’s perspective named Tomoko who observes her homosexual son, Hiroki. The purpose of this study is to explain the readers’ responses toward homosexuality in three aspects: quality aspect, homosexual identification aspect, homosexual in real life aspect. This study uses comic approach which developed by Brenner’s Manga Visual Symbols and sociological literature approach that includes Reader Respond Theory by Wolfgang Iser. The result of this study reveals that most of respondences apprehend homosexual orientation through manga and acknowledge the existence of homosexual orientation in society.
