Abstract

ABSTRACT Ardiyanti, Yulia Ayu. 2021. “Analisis Kontrastif Umpatan dalam Bahasa Jepang dan Bahasa Jawa”. Thesis. Department of Japanese Language and Culture, Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University. The Advisor : S.I. Trahutami, S.S. M.Hum. This study analyze the form of swear word in Japanese and Javanese. In addition, it also aims to explain the similarities and differences between those two. The research data were obtained from film Crows Zero 1 (2007) and film Yowis Ben (2018). The data were collected by the technique of listen and record. Moreover, the analysis method is based on the contrast method. The presentation of the study results was done by informal method which is explained with simple words. Based on the data analysis, it was concluded that there are four forms of swear words in Japanese according to Hughes. There is anatomy, mental retardation, animals, and general. Then there are six forms of swear words in Javanese according to Wijana, there is conditions, animals, objects, body parts, spirits, and activities. That also concluded that Japanese and Javanese swear words function to express someone’s emotion, such as anger, annoyance, surprise, or disappointment. Stupid swear word in Japanese and Javanese are included in the form of swearing at a person’s condition or mental retardation, the use of the animal swear form in Japanese and Javanese are same. Meanwhile, there are more swear words in Javanese than in Japanese, and the swear words in Japanese use words that are not commonly used in Javanese.
