Abstract

The author's interest was unintentionally supported by the Gerindra Party, which raised the topic of the Attorney General's opinion which prohibits LGBT groups from registering as Candidates for Civil Servants (CPNS), in the virtual public sphere of social media Twitter. The role of the Gerindra Party as one of the political parties in Indonesia in helping LGBT groups get their rights can be a bright spot for the struggle of LGBT activists who have been fighting for their rights as citizens. This study wants to show how the discourse of the Gerindra Party’s Twitter text is seen from the use of vocabulary and grammar, as well as to show how the dominant discourse ideology in the Gerindra Party text and the readers who respond to the text. The research subject is the Twitter text on the @Gerindra account about LGBT on November 28, 2019. So from that thought, the purpose of this study is to describe the use of tweet discourse delivered by the Gerindra Party based on vocabulary and grammar and to describe the dominant discourse ideology behind the topic of LGBT discussions carried out by the Gerindra Party as well as those used by the responding community. Through the critical discourse analysis method of Roger Fowler's model on the Twitter text, the results of the research are that positive vocabulary and grammar indicate the use of vocabulary that shows Gerindra Party support for the LGBT group, and negative vocabulary and grammar indicate the use of vocabulary which marginalizes the LGBT group; and the dominant discourse ideology used by both the Gerindra Party and the readers who responded, namely using religious discourse to deny the existence of the LGBT group. In addition, the fight between Gerindra Party and the readers also greatly influenced the dominant ideological discourse in the research results.
