Abstract

This study aims to identify the meanings of the names of sub-districts and villages in the Bergas District, Semarang Regency and to describe the forms between words and the concept of their references. The results of this study are expected to provide an understanding of the toponymy of sub-districts and villages in the District of Bergas.This research uses interview and literature study to supply the data. Then the data were analyzed using descriptive method. The results of the analysis of this study are as follows: 1) there are twelve of toponymy found in the names of sub-districts and villages in Bergas District, toponymy of Bergas Village, toponymy of Karangjati Village, toponymy of Ngempon Village, toponymy of Wujil Village, toponymy of Jatijajar Village, toponymy of Wringinputih Village, toponymy of Munding Village, toponymy of Diwak Village, toponymy of Pagersari Village, toponymy of Randugunting Village, toponymy of Gondoriyo Village, and toponymy of Gebugan Village; 2) There are seven villages whose naming concept shifted based on the version of the story, namely Bergas Village, Karangjati Village, Ngempon Village, Wujil Village, Munding Village, Diwak Village, and Randugunting Village. There are two villages whose naming concept still exists, namely Wringinputih Village and Jatijajar Village. Meanwhile, there are two villages where the existence of the naming concept developed due to changes in the community, namely Gondoriyo Village, Pagersari Village, and Gebugan Village.
