Abstract

Thesis, Department of Japanese Language and Culture, Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University. The Advisor: Nur Hastuti, S.S., M.Hum. This study aims to describe the representation of the meaning of the four seasons in Japan through the lyrics of children's songs contained in the anthology Kodomo No Uta Daihyakka by Matsuyama Yuushi. The method use to attain the material object was Library Research. The approach used in this research is the semiotic approach. Semiotic approach was use to analyze icons, indexes, and symbols in children's song lyrics in the anthology of Kodomo No Uta Daihyakka, then continued by analyzing the representation of the meaning of the four seasons contained in the children's song lyrics. The results of this study indicates that in the sixteen children's songs that the authors have researched there are 18 icons, 24 indexes, and 71 symbols. Furthermore, from the sixteen songs have meanings that describe the situation / atmosphere and culture that exists in Japan in each season. Keywords: Representation, song lyrics, season, semiotics
