Abstract

Pertiwi, L. Prima Pandu. 2020. "Toponymy of Village Names in Ponorogo District (Anthropolinguistic Study)". Thesis (S1) Indonesian Literature. Undip Faculty of Humanities Semarang. Supervisor I Dr. Suyanto, M.Si., and Supervisor II Dra. Sri Puji Astuti, M.Pd. Toponymy or the naming of places is often ignored so that it leads to the breaking up of historical stories. This study aims to identify the name of the village, categorize toponymy 2 based on aspects of its manifestation, explain the meaning of the name of the village, and cultural values contained in the naming of the village. Therefore the results of this study aim to preserve the history and origins of villages in Ponorogo Regency. This study uses atropolinguistic theory, toponymy, meaning, and cultural values. This research uses in-depth interview techniques and literature study to collect data. The method of analysis uses descriptive ethnographic methods and the presentation of data uses informal methods. The method used to test the validity of the data is the source triangulation method. The results showed that in 83 village names in Ponorogo District contained toponymy aspects based on naming. The village toponimi category in Ponorogo Regency includes three aspects of naming. The embodiment aspect is contained in 34 village names, social aspects in 39 village names, and cultural aspects in 11 village names. Based on the research through meaning, 32 village names contain advice, rules, thought patterns or teachings related to Javanese customs or culture embedded in the local community and in the village's topology contained cultural values namely the cultural values of peace and cultural values of well-being. The village toponymy contains meanings that are closely related to the philosophies of life according to the Javanese people's world of views.
