HEADLINE SEBAGAI REPRESENTASI ISU PENTING MEDIA Studi pada Surat Kabar Harian Kompas

Abstract

Mass media publication such as newspapers is one of the main current information trusted by society. The news as presented to the people prosecuted for accurate, credible and quality and not had instances of any partiality. In a newspaper the prominent part in the news that day is the presence of the main headline. Toward elections 2019, headlines about politics much displayed on Kompas Daily Newspaper. The research was conducted to know the political news related framing in the main courtyard and gatekeeping processes in the determination of the news on a headlines Kompas Daily Newspaper. The researcher used a constructivist paradigm with a qualitative approach. To analyze the texts, researchers used analysis from Zhongdan Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki which have 4 structures that is, syntactic structure, scriptural structure, thematic structure and rhetorical structure. To find out the gatekeeping process the researcher conducted an interview with the Deputy Editor of the Kompas Daily Newspaper. The gatekeeping concept that researchers used from Pamela J. Shoemaker with 5 levels that is, the individual level, routine media level, media organization level, extramedia level and social system level. The result of the analysis framing with 9 headline news on Januari 2019 the concepts that is used sociological perspective with three news at each dated 4,5 and 30. And the consept of psychology in six news at each dated 7,8,11, 17, 18 and 31. Overall shows that Kompas daily newspaper is inseparable from subjectivity in reported seen on the news dated 4 with vice secretary general of the democratic party Andy Arief, still founded the incomplete news with 5W+1H, there are some who aren’t aligned with theme which was, information is subtly indicating directions partiality to the presidential candidate Joko Widodo and vice presidential candidate Ma’aruf Amin. And result at process gatekeeping overall show matter in the headlines editor through the process meeting before it must be approved by all members are present. The chief editor have veto in determining news and information construction cannot be prevented and breaking the code of journalistic ethics
