Simbol dan Makna dalam Novel Narcissu 「ナルキッソス」Karya Kataoka Tomo

Abstract

ABSTRACT Afrahana, Rizky, 2020. “Symbol and Meaning in Kataoka Tomo’s Novel Narcissu「ナルキソッス」.” A thesis of Japanese Departement, Diponegoro University. Advisor: Budi Mulyadi, S.Pd, M.Hum. The purpose of this thesis is to find icons, indexes and symbols in Narcissu novel. This research attempts to explain the meaning of icons, indexes and symbols found in the Narcissu novel. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative, which is then followed by Narcissu's semiotic analysis. The results of this study indicate that there are two icons namely topological icons in the form of a cover image of Narcissu novel and a diagrammatic icon in the form of a relationship between the two main characters. Three indexes are the winter index, the desperation index and the anxiety index. Five symbols are two traditional symbols: sea and bridge, and four personal symbols: Atou Yuu, Narcissu, white bracelet and hospital. The sea is a symbol of end. The bridge is a symbol of link. Atou Yuu is a symbol of wish-fulfiller. Narcissu is a symbol of freedom. White bracelet is a symbol of death. The hospital is a symbol of exile. Keywords: Narcissu, symbol, meaning.
