Abstract

ABSTRACT Nabila, Alisa Rona. 2020. “Meaning Relation of Verb Hiraku as a Polysemy in Japanese Sentences. Thesis. Department of Japanese Language and Culture. Faculty of Humanities. Diponegoro University. The advisor: S.I Trahutami, S.S., M.Hum. This research aims to analyse the meaning of verb hiraku, including its basic and extended meaning. The data used in this research are from Japanese online articles. The data collecting is using observation method with writing technique. The meaning of verb hiraku analysis is using translational comparison method with other language as a determinant. The data analysis result presentation is using descriptive method. This research result shows that verb hiraku has basic meaning ‘open’ and extended meaning such as ‘being far’, ‘further’, ‘difference’, ‘being different’, ‘gap’, ‘start’, ‘manage’, ‘enter’, ‘establish’, ‘hold’, ‘be created’, ‘clean’, ‘search’, ‘give’, ‘get’, ‘cut’, ‘dissect’ and many more. Verb hiraku can be used for concrete things like object and abstract things like situation. Keywords: polysemy, verb, hiraku, meaning, basic meaning, extended meaning
