Abstract
ABSTRACT Eggshell that contains nutrient for egg formation, such as Ca, P, Fe, Mg, protein and essential amino acids. This research objective was to evaluate the egg quality of laying hens that were feed with eggshell that has been soaked into H3PO4 3, 4 and 5% and particle sizes of 1 and 3 mm. Eggshells was soaked in water of 80° C, drained and then divided into 4 parts. First part was soaked in H3PO4 3%, second part soaked in H3PO4 4%, third part soaked in H3PO4 5%, and fourth part without H3PO4 as a control. Then eggshell were sun dried, made into a powder with a particle size of 1 and 3 mm and then used in the feed of laying hens. Ninety-six laying hens aged 25 weeks were used in this study. The research conducted for 12 weeks. Factorial completely randomized design patterns used in this study. The results showed that the use of eggshell that was soaked in H3PO4 5% and particle size of 3 mm in feed increase eggshell thickness significantly (P<0.05) but did not lead to changes in egg weight, percentage of eggshell, percentage of albumen, percentage of yolk, yolk index and Haugh Unit.
