Abstract
ROLE OF OPENING TO THERMAL CONDITIONS IN THE SAINT PETER CHURCH SAMBIROTO SEMARANG Ardian Dewandaru Mentor Prof. Dr. Wahyu Setia Budi, MS Co- mentor Prof.Dr.-Ing. Ir. Gagoek Hardiman Universitas Diponegoro Semarang ABSTRACT Saint Peter Church Sambiroto is located in Semarang city which has a tropical climate. This building’s design concept has elements that are an effort to respond to the humid tropical conditions in Indonesia, namely doors, openings in the form of bovenlight without glass, fans, and perforations at the top of the roof and also at this time in the east hall tents were erected to accommodate the number of congregations because in the church it is not enough to accommodate the many congregations, in the east hallway there is also a banner that is useful to protect the congregation from the heat of the sun. This study will examine how the role of openings to thermal conditions in buildings, whether existing openings play a role in creating and realizing good thermal conditions in buildings or not. The method used in this study is the technique of field measurements namely dry temperature, relative humidity, direction and movement of air, wind direction and speed at the time of worship or not with a variety of conditioning related to openings and mechanical ventilation in the form of a fan. After conducting research and analysis, the results show that the presence of openings plays a role in creating thermal conditions in the church but the role is not significant because it is related to external conditions, especially the direction of the wind, openings that are not perpendicular to the direction of the wind, this causes the wind from the outside can not get inside maximally. The role of the openings is even smaller than the role of the fan in the building. Aside from the openings orientation, on the east side of the lobby there is also a banner that makes the wind movement less flexible and cannot optimally flow into the building. This proves that the openings have a role in the creation of thermal conditions in the building, but not too significant because of the presence of banners and orientation that does not match the direction of the wind. Keywords: church, opening, thermal conditions
