Abstract

A practical change of the journalists appears due to the economic condition crisis of the print media companies. The practical change that appears is a permission to the journalists to find advertisements. The purpose of the study is to show the ethical experience of print media journalists in facing the economic crisis of the mass media companies. The research is also conducted to discover the print media journalists' interpretations towards ethical experience in doing journalism activities. The study uses an interpretive paradigm to understand and explain the meaning of the phenomenon. In order to answer the research questions, the study has used the theory of phenomenology with the object of study in the form of journalism activities at the journalists level in the process of producing news. The results of this study indicate that the economic conditions of print media companies have led to a permissive attitude towards sharing news, looking for advertisements and receiving envelopes by journalists. The actions of print media journalists are interpreted as a response to the print media conditions. Furthermore, journalism ethics is interpreted by journalists as a result of the compromise of journalists facing social responsibility and for maintaining the company's economic condition. An action is called ethical action as long as it is in line with efforts to maintain the company's economic conditions and as long as it does not harm the public interest.
