Abstract

ABSTRACT Ayu Karunia Utami Nurses obstacles in treating end-of-life patients xvi + 70 Page + 8 Tables + 2 Images + 24 Attachments Nurses who working in hospital frequently look after patients at the end-of-life, yet nurses face many obstacles that hinder end-of-life care. The purpose of this study was to determine the obstacles of nurses in treating end-of-life patients. This research was a quantitative research with survey method. The research instrument used a questionnaire of Nursing Survey Regarding End-of-Life Care on Medical-Surgical Units. The sampling technique using consecutive sampling technique. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis. Respondents of this study were 97 medical and surgical nurses. The results showed the three major obstacles exist in the care of patients were lack of knowledge by health professionals (60,8%), avoidance of dying patients by health care professionals (48%) and lack of education/training in end-of-life care (43%). While the greatest obstacles faced by nurses from nurse (28,8%) and family (22,1%). The conclusion of this study was the major obstacle of end-of-life care is lack of knowledge by health professionals and the greatest obstacle faced by nurses is derived from themselves. Nurseneed to improve their knowledge and skills related end-of-life care by attending a continuing education program. Keywords: End-of-Life Obstacles, Nurses, End-of-Life Bibliography :95 (1991-2019)
