Abstract

Safitri, Lia Dwi. 2019. "Impoliteness of Language in Hotman Paris Show on Inews TV: Pragmatic Studies". Thesis (S1) Indonesian Literature Faculty of Humanities Diponegoro University Semarang. Advisor: Dr. Suyanto, M.Si., Riris Tiani, S.S., M.Hum. This study aims to describe and explain the form of language impoliteness as well as explain the factors underlying the language impoliteness found in the Hotman Paris Show. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. At the data collection stage, the writer uses the method of referring to downloading the video first, and then proceed with the note taking technique. Based on the results of data analysis, there were four forms of impoliteness and seven causes of language impoliteness. The four forms of impoliteness are (1) bald on record impoliteness; (2) positive impoliteness includes withdrawing or separating from the speech partner, showing disinterest, indifference, and dissonance, making others feel uncomfortable with the language used; (3) negative impoliteness includes ridiculing, criticizing or mocking, insulting others, belittling or demeaning others, violating personal space, associating speech partners with negative things; and (4) mock politeness. There are seven factors behind the impoliteness found in the title of Hotman Paris Show, namely (1) direct criticism with harsh words; (2) protective of opinion; (3) deliberately accusing the speech partner; (4) deliberately cornering the speech partner; (5) speech relations; (6) the background of the resource person, and (7) even format.
