Abstract

Khairunisa, Hanifa Dwinda. 2019. "Lexical Cohesion and Grammatical Cohesion in Rain Novels by Tere Liye." Thesis (S-1) Indonesian Literature Departement. Faculty of Humanities Diponegoro University Semarang. This research aims to explain: 1) a marker of lexical cohesion in Rain novel written by Tere Liye; and 2) markers of grammatical cohesion in Rain novel written by Tere Liye. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive study. The source of data is a novel entitled Rain by Tere Liye which consists of 32 episodes of 320 pages published by Gramedia Pustaka Utama, Jakarta in 2016. The data of this research were collected through observation method by reading. The basic technique of this method was note technique. The data were analyzed by using Segmenting Immediate Contituens Technique as the basic technique of distribuional method and extended techniques, namely subtitution and deletion techniques. While the technique of presenting the results of data analysis uses informal presentation methods. The results of this study are: 1) lexical cohesion in the form of repetition (tautotes repetition, anaphora repetition, mesodiplosis repetition, and epistrofa repetition), synonymy, antonymy or opposition (absolute opposition, polar opposition, and relations opposition), collocation, hyponyms and equivalence; 2) grammatical cohesion in the form of pronouns or references (persona referencing, demonstrative referencing of time and place and comparative referencing), substitution (verbal substitution, fraction substitution, and clause substitution), ellipses and compilation or conjunction.
